Scum of the….shower?

Hey Friends,

It’s a sunny Monday and once the kids (and dog) were settled - I needed to clean the tub/shower and bathroom this morning. Weekends, extra friends over etc…a scrub is needed.

So not to be all TMI or or anything, we have ONE shower in our lovely old farmhouse and 5 of us living here. Our shower sees some serious action, and soap scum. Unpopular opinion, but I feel that “more natural” soaps can leave even more film and residue on our shower. Although scrubbing bubble could handle the job, my conscious can’t handle bringing that endocrine destroyer into the house - so I’ve had to get resourceful. I’ve also had to be a bit more flexible.

So get ready to clutch your pearls friends - I use BLUE DAWN DISH SOAP. GASP…the horror.

And although I kind of agree - It blasts through my soap scum, leave the tiles and bathtub looking shiny and clean and I swallow my pride for the final product. Hey - if you know of any awesome DIY or affordable CLEAN cleaners that are Martha Stewart Level Effective, please please PLEASE share them. 20 years or so into adulting and this is the best I could find.

I use the recipe found HERE and melis’d-it-up to make it my own.
I use a smaller Dawn Dish Soap concentration (not 1:1). I mix 2 cups warm vinegar, to one cup Dawn Dish soap. But the real magic comes in when like a total savage rebel - I add 1/4 cup of isopropyl alcohol. After lots of tests (and some cussing) I find adding the Iso. Alcohol gives a greater shine and cuts through the dawn that can be left behind.

So spray it one, wait 5 minutes, scrub lightly, rinse well and taa-daa, clean and shiny.

Budget friendly, more green (but not perfect) and easy - I hope you’ll give it a try!

If you have littles still sitting and soaking in the bath - be sure to rinse extra well (and get my fav chlorine filter) to save their lil systems from hard detergents and other icky chemicals we don’t need.

Thanks for being here - and keep it healthy but SIMPLE friends!
